For around 50 years I’ve struggled with my weight, but since I went to the doctors and realized “this is it mate”, I’ve wised up and got my act together.
I’ve tried diet after diet, I tried a low calorie slim fast diet, the Atkins diet, weigh watchers, slimming world, I’ve tried juicing ( had some success, but it never lasted) but none of them actual work for me because I’ve now woken up to the fact it’s all in the mind, you have to want to do it, or it simply won’t work.
You have to get the motivation in the 1st place, my motivation is my health and long life, something I want to preserve, I’m sure this would be enough reason for anyone. But going to the doctors and being told I was morbidly obese and I would be diabetic if I carried on like I was , definitely helped me to get my motivation. My life had to change, it was as simple as that.
But before I started I tried to get some facts together and educate myself about nuititrion and the reasons why and what and how it all works. I read up on diabetes on what does and doesn’t spike your blood, I purchased a blood sugar monitor ( one that takes cassettes) , I actually use it every other day, My partner Lizzy gets tested as well, mainly because she has a sweet tooth, but she is a stick insect and it appears she’s one of those rare breeds who can eat and do what she wants and not be affected by any of this. It’s not fair really.
I quickly discovered that Alcohol was my worst enemy, so that stopped, and carbohydrates things like bread, rice and pasta all stopped, but they have low cal alternatives.
So I devised a plan, just 2 meals a day, the (1st) a big breakfast of porridge, with all the fruit I liked plus low fat natural yoghurt, and the (2nd) a dinner of all the salad I can eat with some sort of meat or fish, with low fat salad cream or the likes.
Now 11 months later my weight has gone from 110 kilos down to 84 kilos a loss of 26 kilos, which in old money is just over 4 stone ( 2.2 pounds to 1 kilo)( 6.2 kilo equals 1 stone) At one time around 6/7 years ago I peaked at a staggering 123 kilos.
